The Chang-Hua Youth Band
In 1992, the Chang-Hua Youth Band (CHYB) was founded and comprises of a group of young players from central Taiwan. Hereafter, to invite wind teachers and professional players with us. In March, 1998, the band registered as CHYB, began to attain our goal of becoming a member of, and serving the community.
Many musicians are observing more and more information of the CHYB, since it was founded. The members of the band are come from every region of social environment. Besides the regular practices and training, the CHYB plans 7 to 10 concerts annually and participates generally in art activities in schools or in public. Even though the members are amateur, but we are devotion and artistry to work towards achieving our goal of serving the community.
At present, Our concerts have been held in every region of Taiwan and the band receives a lot of invitations to perform and have become prestigious. The CHYB has not only earned the coveted “ A One “ in the Taiwan Music Competition but also has been eulogized as The Best Team in Chang-Hua for 2 years. It also won the first place in Huang-Xi Art Competition in 2004 and 2005. CHYB has been actively participating in domestic and international music activities. It has been, for four times, invited by The Conference of Asia & Pacific Band Directors Association to give performance in the festival, which is held every two years; furthermore, it was also elected as the 3rd directorate of Taipei Band Association. CHYB has devoted itself to promoting music continuously.
In order for this music to become popular the public's support and encouragement is necessary. Since the beginning of the CHYB, all works have been taken care of by ourselves , eg - practices, advertisement and the band management. And gratitude with the guidance of precursor and the patronage of businesses , individuals and the fellowship. The CHYB will endeavor better and better.
With firmness faith in ourselves, the CHYB will continue to work towards the goal of localization and diversity. We would expect to get your advocacy and lifting wind-music culture level, and setting new ideal together with you.
Conductor Zhong-Da Chen
He began his musical education in high school under the tuition of Father (馬良). Later on, he learned oboe from professor Huang, Mei-Ling and Wang,Song-En, the piano from professor Chen,Min-Hua and Chang,Jer, and musical theory from professor Lin,Chin-Yu and Chen,Yi-Long.
While studying music at Dong-Hai university, he was musically directed by the famous Taiwanese oboist Liu,Rong-Yi, Anthony Camden who was the first-char at the London Symphony Orchestra,. He learned conducting of stringed instruments from Jin,Hsi-Wen and the famous Russian conductor Leonid Moullaev, then he graduated from postgraduate studies with top grades. These days, he is regularly invited to conduct school bands and perform for the chambers of music in Taiwan and Japan. In 1997 he took the directorship of the CHYB.
With clear movement, he masters the melodies and illustrates the structures and musical levels. His phrases are elegant and vivid, perfectly expressing the rhythm of the music and the mood of melody. His style appeals to all audiences.
