The Shinsharn Wind Ensemble
The musical environment gets increasingly prosperous in Taiwan. However, a new generation of wind ensemble performers is rarely valued domestically. Therefore, to cultivate wind ensemble talents, promote its culture and create stages, Chen Shun-fa founded Shinsharn Wind Ensemble in 2006 and became the general director of it. In its initial years, the wind ensemble members consisted of elites of schools wind bands in Northern Taiwan. For the six years, the quality and ability of the members have increased continually. In recent years, the ensemble even sets its goal that it, as a nonprofessional ensemble, aspires to achieve a professional level. Shinsharn Wind Ensemble hires famous visiting conductor sand recitalists at home and abroad on a regular basis in hopes of increasing its members’ performing ability and broadening their horizons.
Conductor Shun fa Chen
Chen Shun fa was educated at National Taipei Teachers College –General Education Division (former National Taipei University of Education), where he joined the wind band playing the trumpet in 1982. Chen tested into Fu Jen Catholic University Music Department majoring in trumpet in 1991. Chen won first place in National Trumpet Solo Competition. Chen was taught by Professor Chang Chi-Jen
and won master’s degree in orchestral conducting at Department of Music, SoochowUniversity in 2007. Besides playing the trumpet, Chen has devoted himself to conducting and the teaching of wind bands. The wind bands under Chen’s guidance have won 22 top honors in total.
