University of Delaware Wind Ensemble, U.S.A
The University Wind Ensemble, led by Dr. Chad Nicholson, is comprised of 53 woodwind, brass, keyboard and percussion players, and its members are chosen through competitive auditions held at the beginning of each semester. The Wind Ensemble performs multiple concerts on campus and additional concerts off-campus each semester, including tours, conferences, and outreach performances. The repertoire is chosen from the most challenging original literature for band, wind ensemble, and wind chamber ensemble, ranging from standard repertoire to innovative modern works. Wind Ensemble membership at the University of Delaware leads to the development of superb individual and ensemble playing skills and artistry; the ensemble has enjoyed recent personal collaborations with such composers as Jack Stamp and Pulitzer Prize-winner Joseph Schwantner, as well as consortium commission of works by David Maslanka and Steven Danyew.
